Mother's Day Flower Gift

What could be sweeter than providing your students with a Mother's Day gift to give to their moms. They will be so proud because they had a part in the cultivating and decorating. This is a good opportunity as well to talk to them about how God cares for us and gives us all that we need.

Craft Supplies:

  • Marigold Seeds
  • Potting Soil Mix
  • Paper Cups (can be decorated ahead of time)
  • Sunny Location
  • Water

Marigolds take approximately two months to grow and flower from seed so it is good to start your flowers in early March. If you have missed that deadline, you can always go to the local nursery and buy some blooming marigolds. If you are early enough to plant seeds, it will save you some money.

Plant the seeds in some well-draining potting soil putting the seed only about 1/4" below the soil line. Keep them moist and warm. When the plants are small, don't expose them to harsh sunlight, give them a few days to get sturdy. Marigolds are easy to grow and can be transplanted outside after the threat of frost has passed. To keep the plants blooming you need to deadhead the plants by cutting off the spent blooms.
